HEALTH TREATMENT PLANS 2011-2012
PARENTS and GUARDIANS:
        Please prepare new health treatment plans, allergy and asthma action plans for the upcoming 2011-2012 school year. All the necessary forms are located here on the WSHS clinic website. Thank you for your effort.
Medication Disposal/End of School Year
All medications currently kept in the school clinic must be taken home no later than Friday, June 17, 10:00 A.M. Any medication that is left must be disposed of after this date per Prince William County Schools regulations. Again, please call me , 703-497-8168 with any questions.

Reasons For Sending Student Home from school or for Parents To Keep A Child At Home:
1.Fever of 100 degrees F or higher.
2.Infections: Conjuctivitis (pink eye ), strep throat, ringworm, impetigo. These must be treated for 24hours before returning to school.
3.Unexplained rash.
4.Head Injury
5. Other injuries that impact students mobility where he/she is unable to ride the bus, or walk, or drive home.
6.Colds with constant nasal drainage, severe cough, or difficulty breathing.
7. Diarrhea or vomiting.
8. Stiff neck associated with fever or recent injury.
9. In adequate immunizations.
WHAT SERVICES DOES THE SCHOOL NURSE PROVIDE:
.Health Services:Assesses health and development, provides nursing interventions and evaluates students response to care. The school nurse is NOT a replacement for a primary care provider.
. Health education: Provides education to students, staff and parents.
.Healthy Environment: Identifies health and safety concerns in the school environment.
.Nutritional Services: Supports healthy food services programs
.Physical Education/Activities: Promotes health and physical education in supporting healthy behaviors. Promotes staff wellness activities.
.Counseling/Mental Healthh: Assesses needs, provides interventions and refers students to appropriate staff or community agency.Participates in the school crisis management team.
. Parent/ Community Involvement: Promotes community involvement and serves as a liaison between home , school, and the community.

  As part of the team of staff, teachers, and administrators at WSHS, my goal is to maximize your childs' learning potential and to make the most of the high school experience. It all starts with a positive attitude and requires a well rested body and mind, and regular nourishment. it is very important for students to eat and hydrate early in the morning to learn well, have more energy, feel better, look better and be healthier.
SPRING HAS SPRUNG!NOTES FROM THE NURSE
With the coming of spring and the warmer weather we are experiencing the return of spring allergy season.Please ensure your students success in school by providing them with the necessary helps in order to control their allergy symptoms. If your student needs medication for allergy relief during the course of the school day, medication can be brought from home, accompanied by the medication authorization form. Regulation 757-4, attachment 1. I will keep all meds in the clinic for student use. I n some cases students are seriously affected by allergies and may need to obtain an early dismissal. All early dismissal due to illness originate from the nurses office. Your student will call and arrangements will be made for their safe transition from school. Again, feel free to call me with your questions/concerns.
